Porsche could share platforms and knowledge with Bentley, says new boss Matthias Müller

2011 Bentley Continental GT

In a recent interview, Porsche’s new boss Matthias Müller said that the company could share platforms and technology with Bentley, but also admitted that this plan might affect British manufacturer’s plans to build a Panamera rival. Apparently, Porsche wants to improve its economies of scale, particularly on the platform used by the Panamera. The Panamera could also spawn a two-door coupe as an indirect successor to the iconic 928. This car will be a perfect rival to the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class but also to the Bentley Continental GT.

Muller also confirmed the fact that more than one Panamera variant is being considered. Rumors confirmed the fact that a convertible version of the car is on the drawing board. Still, regarding the possible partnership between Bentley and Porsche, Matthias Müller said that he has to talks with the official from the British manufacturer in order to see if the manufacturers can put together their performance and engineers.

We have to look at our competitors, and our internal competitors. Maybe there is a Bentley; we have to look at whether the Porsche can fit in with the strategy there. It would be stupid to have a car, a derivative, which substitutes, or is substituted, to 100 per cent by another brand.” said Muller. [via autocar]
