Porsche drops plans to build entry-level model, smaller Panamera

2012 Porsche Panamera GTS

If you were waiting for an entry-level two-seater sports car from Porsche you’d better look for another car as the German manufacturer just dropped plans for that car. These words came from CEO Matthias Mueller, who also added that an entry-level car will dilute the brand and traditional customers will choose other sports cars. Mueller told the press last year that he wants a successor to the iconic Porsche 550 of the 1950s and it was possible to see it in 2014. And the bad news continue as Mueller also told a German newspaper that Porsche has no immediate plans to build a smaller version of the Porsche Panamera in order to take on the Mercedes-Benz e-Class and the CLS. Mueller said that a smaller Panamer is not necessarily today or tomorrow as this car could be developed in five or six year and will still make sense. Still, Porsche will expand its lineup with the Macan, a smaller version of the Cayenne which is expected to make its debut next year.
