To fix a potential safety belt issue, Porsche China is expected to start a recall involving 640 vehicles (three Panamera versions - S, 4S and Turbo) according to a report from Xinhua News. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said that the recall affects the Panamera S, Panamera 4S and Panamera Turbo cars made before January 25, 2010.

GAQSIQ based this announcement on a report issued by Porsche China that confirmed the existence of a design defect affecting the safety belt. This defect could result to the failure of the fixation function in extreme cases, making the entire system useless. It is also believed to pose a serious threat to the safety of the vehicles occupants. To fix the problem, Porsche will add new safety devices free of cost. Porsche is encouraging owners of the affected vehicles to contact Porsche through a dedicated hot line, or ask the GAQSIQ for more details.
