Today, the 250,000th Cayenne rolled off production lines at the Liepzig auto factory of Porsche AG in Stuttgart. The landmark car comes in a white, 6-cylinder model with a diesel powerplant that will be delivered to the lucky customer residing in Austria. The sporty SUV has been manufactured since 2002 in Leipzig. The showcasing of the Cayenne as the third model in a series was a major strategy for the carmaker.

The five-seater SUV is not just a welcome addition to the range for many loyal Porsche customers, but it also opens up a totally new range of customers in an international scale. This is due mainly to the easy-to-handle nature of the Cayenne which merges sportiness with toughness and superb off-road capabilities.

The carmaker has sold 150,000 unit around the globe from the model's first generation. With the second generation, Porsche has raised sales further through the car's fuel economy, higher drive performance, and enhanced drive-handing. This has resulted in production expansion at the plant in Leipzig. From the recently expired fiscal year 2007-2008, the carmaker has sold 45,478 Cayennes. Porsche is planning to expand its markets to China, Russia, Latin America and even the Middle East without counting its existing markets in the US and Germany.
