Porsche Spyder prepares its big comeback

The Porsche Spyder, the most respected name in the history of sports cars, is making a comeback and there are images that demonstrate how it will look like when it gets here by 2013. Coming with the platform of the VW Bluesport Concept, a platform that will be shared with the upcoming Audi R2, the latest compact Porsche will keep the company's reputation for unequalled driving dynamics, although in a much lightweight, economical and less expensive form compared to all models in the recent past.
The latest Spyder will sport a canvass roof and will offer the same open-air driving sensation as the Boxster, although it is just 3.99 meters in length, much smaller than the current entry-level Porsche. The car will be powered by a variant of the 200bhp 2.0 TFSI powerplant borrowed from the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is installed behind the driver and, for better handling stability, between the two axles.
The same powerplant will feature in a Sport variant, but it will be tuned to generate 280bhp. The Spyder will come with a 28,000 Pound sticker price compared with the cheapest Boxster which costs 33,700, while at the same time keeping a premium above the less expensive VW Bluesport model. The Porsche 550 Spyder, which was revealed in 1953 at the Paris Motor Show, is the main source of the new Spyder's inspiration and design philosophy.
