Porsche will boost Cayenne production to meet the demand

Porsche will increase production of its Cayenne sports utility vehicle unit by 10 to 20 percent by next year, after surging deliveries spurred a 37 percent sales gain during the first half, the company’s chief, Bernhard Maier, disclosed in an interview. The vehicle model’s demand, which caused delivery times to peak to 12 months in the markets. The company wants the waiting time to be at most six months. He further revealed that they are currently searching for ways to expand production capacity in order to serve their customers quicker.
He added that the their data for the first half showed that they were growing almost consistently in all markets around the world and across all its model range. Porsche SE jointly owns the sports vehicle manufacturer with Volkswagen AG and is planning to merge with the Germany-based manufacturer.
Supported by VW's resources, the vehicle manufacturer aims to increase sales by 100 percent to about 200,000 units by 2018 by increasing sales in emerging markets and adding compact SUV. According to Maier, Porsche should increase deliveries to more than 100,000 this 2011 from the 97,000 units last year. In addition, Porsche’s sales increased 29 percent to 10,670 models in June, leading to sales of 60,650 vehicles through the month. Six-month orders increased 26 percent to 65,660.
