2010 SMS 460 Mustang
In commemoration of the 45 year anniversary after the release of the original Mustang back in 1964, and in remembrance of Steve Saleen's 25 year association with the legendary sports car of America, there will be an introduction of the initial sketches of the 2010 SMS 460 and the SMS 460X Mustangs at the celebrations in Birmingham, Alabama. The SMS 460 Mustangs, which are distinctly the work of Steve Saleen, come with a skew of visual and technical elements that distinguishes them from the rest. The current take of Steve Saleen on the modern Mustang includes a new treatment of the front face, the SMS Red Butterfly Air Induction Hood, the front and side splitters, the rear face and the air diffuser integrated with a rear wing that generates high down-force.
This is keeping in step with the times, and while the Mustang remains legendary, Ford has truly done a superb job on the 2010 version. Power under the hood for the SMS 460 Mustang is a 4.6 liter V8 unit that generates 470hp and 427ft-lb of torque and with the more potent SMS 460X Mustang, with the all new internal and headwork, produces 655hp and 600ft-lb from its modified 5.0 liter V8 power unit. Both models employ the SMS 296 Supercharger, patent still pending, that was introduced at the New York International Auto Show last week. Power is transmitted to the wheels via 5-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed manual on the SMS 460 or 6-speed SMST manual on the line-topping 460X.
Both cars are expected to come with stunning performance, with the 460 reaching 60mph from standstill in the low 4 seconds, and the 460X can also do so in the lower 4 seconds. Besides these engine numbers, handling, road grip, and stopping also play essential parts. Steve Saleen's signature Watt's linkage suspension with a brand new geometry will come on the 2010 SMS 460 Mustangs. Stopping power for the new SMS both at the front and rear provide outstanding power to compensate with the models stunning performance. The interior of the new Mustangs are in all-new Alcantara and leather SMS performance seats highlighting the stripes of the patented Signature Series chevron. Hand-stitched and high-grade leather cover the dash and interior panels. Offered are multiple seat chevron and SMS special exterior color finishes.
