Preview: Aston Martin Cygnet
Aston Martin has come up with a car that’s smaller than a Ford Fiesta and its name is Cygnet. The Cygnet came about as a result of a joint venture with Toyota. The Cygnet is said to have the same three-cylinder petrol engine as the Toyota iQ, as well as its three-plus-one seating arrangement.
It is also expected to have a Euro NCAP five-star crash safety rating. It boasts of a highly economical engine that has a low emission. Aston Martin designed the Cygnet to be a supercar with a three-meter length. You’d be getting the same attention to detail as on the DBS, with a leather-clad cabin, and an Emotion Control Unit (ECU) that goes into the center console, in lieu of a traditional key. Continued after the jump!
Here’s the twist – in order to buy a Cygnet, you must already be the owner of an Aston Martin. In a survey the company made, 30% of Aston Martin owners buy small cars such as the MINI for Smart ForTwo. The purpose of these small cars is for short journeys and the commute to city-based offices.
Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez wants its customers to have the chance to buy their own “luxury commuter.” Dr. Bez added that it is now the right time for this special project “made possible with the support of an organization of Toyota’s stature and capability and the intelligent design and perfect city car package of the iQ.”
