Mugen Honda CR-Z Hybrid

The European arm of Mugen announced that it is currently working on a highly-tuned version of Honda’s CR-Z, capable to deliver Type R performance but with a better fuel consumption. Set to make its debut this summer at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new car carries the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine found on the standard version, but according to Mugen this engine will be seriously improved. Same method will be applied to the Honda IMA system, in order to boost the power and torque.

Moreover, the car will feature bespoke brakes and suspension. Regarding the design, the car will be fitted with a carbon fibre bonnet, in order to reduce the overall weight, as well as with a new set of Mugen alloy wheels. Furthermore, the car will receive news Mugen body parts, such as front and rear bumpers, and a spoiler.

We wanted to extend the performance of the CR-Z,” says Hiro Toyoda of MUGEN Euro. “It is already a fun car to drive, with an excellent chassis, but we thought that with more power and enhanced torque delivery it could be even more exciting. However, as with all MUGEN projects, we have stayed true to the Honda design and philosophy, and the electric motor is still a vital ingredient to boost performance and economy.”
