Mazda gives us a preview of the new Kodo design language that is featured on its next-generation 2 and 3 hatchbacks. This new styling direction was first seen on the Shinari four-door coupe concept that Mazda displayed last month. Global design chief, Ikeo Maeda, said that Koda, a Japanese word that means 'soul of motion' "will lead to the next generation of Mazda design.” Mazda has released a video that illustrates how Kodo could be applied to Mazda’s three-door hatchback models. In the video, a clay model was used to portray the design language and to project various colors. Kodo is meant to replace the Nagare design language that is inspired by nature. Instead of Nagare's 'smiling face', the hatchbacks get a prominent, gaping-mouth grille. Its other key styling features include ultra-slim headlights and an new side vents fitted right behind the front wheels.
