Prodrive has announced the complete details of its new Subaru Impreza Group N rally car. Modifications were made to its engine and suspension. Prodrive says that pricing for the car is intended to compete with rallying's new lower-cost category, Super 2000. Graham Prew of Prodrive claimed that the Impreza is a match for any Super 2000 on gravel but that on the tarmac, the extra engine performance makes a significant difference. The N2010 is sold at a price that's half of what the Super 2000 costs. The N2010 also has much lower running costs.
The N2010 is priced from £120,000 and for the first time, the car can be leased for two years with an option to buy the car at the end of the agreement. Included in the package are insurance and rebuilds. In order to balance the performance of Group N and restricted Super 2000 cars, the car has to use the new larger 33mm air restrictor that's specified by the FIA.
Peak power is raised by 20bhp from increasing the restrictor diameter from 32 to 33mm, fitting high-flow fuel injectors and recalibrating the 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine's ECU. Revised Ohlins dampers give extra travel at the front and rear and all of the suspension bushes were also strengthened.
