The negotiations between PSA/Peugeot-Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. to use one of the Mitsubishi's platforms for small, low-range cars will conclude soon, according to a report last Friday by French newspaper Les Echos. Citing sources, the business daily said that the central theme of the talks is Mitsubishi's low-cost "Global Small" platform that will be produced in Thailand. Mitsubishi has plans to make its first car based on this platform. For the Japanese market, Mitsubishi has a target of 2011 but the car will arrive in the international market only in 2012. In early 2010, PSA and Mitsubishi discussed the possibility of a stake swap but it later withdrew from the plan, saying conditions were not right. Later this year in Europe, Peugeot and Citroen will launch their electric cars, the iOn and C-Zero, which are both based on Mitsubishi's iMiEV. PSA has yet to confirm this report.
