A new sales record this year is what PSA/Peugeot-Citroen anticipates as it continues to work to increase its global presence. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, PSA brand boss Jean-Marc Gales said that the automaker expects to have a significant increase in sales for 2011 compared to the 3.6 million units sold in 2010. Gales said that PSA expects in the next several years to be able to move up in the global ranking of carmakers.

PSA held the No. 7 rank in 2010 in terms of new-car sales, one position higher than the previous year. The Peugeot brand was at No. 8 while Citroen was No. 13. Gales said that Peugeot will be stronger in the international scene than its sister brand since it will have precedence in markets like India and Iran, where Citroens won’t be offered. He said that the company aims to get the No. 7 spot “with just Peugeot by 2015." Meanwhile, Citroen has a stronger presence in China and is now embarking on its second joint venture.

PSA runs 16 manufacturing plants globally and intends to further increase its production capacity. Gales said that the annual production capacity at the joint venture factory with Dongfeng Motor Group in China could expand within the next five years to 800,000 units, which would make it the largest global production plant owned by PSA. There are also plans for a second joint venture in China with Chang'an Automobile Group.
