PSA/Peugeot-Citroen unveils the VELV Concept

PSA/Peugeot-Citroen Velv Concept

At a forum organized by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), PSA Peugeot Citroën is presenting a light electric vehicle known by its French acronym VELV, which is an innovative concept utilized for urban driving. The concept vehicle was developed with a group of French companies and a research laboratory who have teamed up to meet the mobility demands of the future. The VELV seats three people and is a fuel-efficient electric three-wheeler. The vehicle's driving range is 100 km with its power rating of 20kW for 650kg.

It can accelerate up to 110 km/h. In tight spaces, the VELV is easy to handle with a turning radius of only 7.20 meters. Additionally, it shows the area that can be covered in real time based on the driving range. With this, it also identifies charging stations that can be reached with the remaining charge. The objective of the project is to significantly lessen the amount of on-board energy by providing a fun ride whose light weight, immediately available maximum torque, and electric motor make for an extremely enjoyable driving experience. The VELV uses only 85 Wh per kilometre, making its environmental footprint equivalent to that of a train trip.

Moreover, the VELV also complies with passive safety regulations for passenger cars. The concept is targeting traditional rental companies, corporate fleets and self-service schemes such as Autolib's buyers of pre-owned vehicles and other numerous customers who want a better option for getting around town. Furthermore, the VELV answers the new challenges of the future in terms of transportation by helping in the development of lightweight electric powertrains and providing momentum for the entire French EV industry with ADEME's support.
