Stamford, Conn.-based Putnam Leasing will be handling leases for McLaren’s relaunch in the U.S. McLaren chose Putnam for the job because of the latter’s experience in handling leases for super-luxury and super-sports car, according Tony Joseph, director of McLaren's North American region. The company began its reentry in the U.S. in November by delivering the first of its MP4-12C super-sports car to its customers.
The company’s New York unit has nine U.S. dealers and one Canadian dealer. McLaren aims to peddle around 150 cars in 2012 and to reach annual sales of 700 units in North America, Joseph said. The MP4-12C is priced at around $231,400 at least, including freight.
Putnam offers customers a "lease-to-own" plan, in which they officially own their cars at the end of the lease. Putnam CEO Steven Posner said the concept is to keep the customers’ monthly payments lower so they can use their cash someplace else. Putnam also offers "substitution of collateral" leases, where a customer may drive another car and pay the same monthly dues.
