Race Retro will be honoring the motorsport legacy of the iconic Team Lotus and the rallying success of French manufacturer Alpine as its marques when it comes back to Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire from February 22 to 24, 2013. Bagging its first World Championship title in 1963, racing driver Jim Clark, founder and chief designer Colin Chapman and Team Lotus have established themselves as icons of Grand Prix motor Racing. Even more than a decade since its last race, Team Lotus is still one of the most successful racing teams in history, grabbing seven Formula One Constructors’ titles and six Drivers’ Championships as well as the Indianapolis 500 in the United States between 1962 and 1978. Team Lotus was known for engaging in several innovative and experimental developments in critical motorsport, in both technical and commercial fields. Race Retro will be celebrating its tenth anniversary by displaying the legendary cars involved in Team Lotus’ victories. Alpine, a France-based specialist, shocked the world by beating racing favorites like Ford, Lancia and Porsche at the Manufacturers World Rally Championship in 1973. Alpine banked on basic design and relied on mostly production mechanical parts from the Renault components bin. Its Alpine A110 Berlinette coupe won the first ever WRC title. The 620-kg A110 boasted of 180 Renault bhp during the race.
