Range Rover Evoque Sport officially confirmed

2012 Range Rover Evoque

In order to make the Range Rover even more popular, Land Rover will offer a Sport version of its crossover. According to AutoExpress, Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said that the British manufacturer is looking to build cabriolet and special editions but it could “a more overtly sporty one, for example”. Although there were many rumors regarding a more powerful Evoque, this is the first time an official said something. The new car may hit the market just in time to face a more powerful version of the Audi Q3 previewed by the RS Q3 Concept unveiled back in April at the Auto China 2012 in Beijing.

According to the same McGovern, the Range Rover Evoque managed to attract new customers to the land Rover brand (80% percent of the people who buy an Evoque are new to the brand) and due to this the manufacturer decided to broaden its appeal with models such as the Evoque Cabrio and Special Edition with Victoria Beckham. The Range Rover Evoque Sport is expected to use an upgraded version of the 240bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. For those who don’t know, the Radical SR3 supercar uses the same engine developing an impressive 296 hp, which means that the engine is capable to more power.

And because the diesel engines are more popular, Land Rover might also offer a performance version powered by a diesel engine, more exactly the 2.2-liter SD4 delivering around 210 hp. The design of the upcoming Range Rover Evoque Sport is also expected to be improved with a new body kit, bigger wheels as well as a new suspension that will drop the car by around 10 mm. A new braking system will also be available. The interior will be improved on order to follow the same sporty theme of the exterior and we expect to see sport seats, a new steering wheel and a new set of aluminum pedals.
