Range Rover has officially joined the environmentally conscious bandwagon. These are the photos of its first step towards a small and light eco-vehicle. The new model is based on the LRX Concept that debuted at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show. The new model is anticipated to debut 'green' technology which will later be placed on all Range Rover models.
The ‚Äúsmallest, lightest and most efficient Range Rover‚Äù ever built is how Land Rover‚ Managing Director, Phil Popham describes the model. As pictured, the prototype has a Freelander body; however, the wheelbase is shorter and the camouflaged front hints that the mule has an updated grille. The new model is believed to share some parts with the current Freelander. It also offers an engine range capable of low carbon emissions of 150g CO2/km. There is speculation that a hybrid version is being developed as well. It is believed to be capable of returning less than 120g CO2/km. The date that the LRX is expected to be unveiled is June 17, 2010, which marks the 40th year since the first Range Rover was introduced.
