With the availability of a £100,000-plus version of the new Range Rover, it appears that the brand is prepared to rival Bentley and Lamborghini for sales, according to company chief John Edwards. The mooted competitors are expected to start selling around 2015, priced at about £150,000. Edwards said at the Paris motor show that the presence of £100,000 Range Rovers in the range now reveals the company’s aim to compete with the high-end brands. He said that this new car is clearly meant to go up in price. He said that since it can easily go over £100,000, there’s more flexibility when it comes to choices of leathers, woods, finishes and technology packages. He added that Range Rover “has nothing to fear” since it has an unrivalled authenticity in the market. He said that the company looks at the future in confidence with its three icons: Range Rover, Discovery and Defender as well as the Evoque’s design classic.
