Rare Mercedes-Benz 300SL to be auctioned in October

Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing

A rare Mercedes-Benz 300SL fitted with modern AMG running-gear is to be sold at an auction on October 28 for around GBP 350,000. RM Auctions and Sotheby's at the Automobiles of London will conduct the sale of the car, which has an original shell but has been fitted with a 6.0-litre V8 engine and four-speed automatic transmission. Only four left-hand-drive and four right-hand-drive coupes (and four roadsters) were built by AMG. The version being sold at the auction was built in 2006 for an undisclosed buyer. Since each was made to specific customer order, no brochures exist. The car produces 375bhp and the car's top speed is limited to 155mph. Stopping power is supplied by C63 AMG discs, which sit behind AMG 17in alloys with 235/245 tires. The rest is a mix of E-class and SL mechanicals. Inside, there are modern sports seats and a Becker radio with iPod connection and a CD changer.
