Raser Technologies announced last year during the SAE World Congress that it designed a plug-in hybrid powertrain for big trucks, together with FEV. It is of note that Pacific Gas and Electric earlier this year ordered a couple of converted vehicles that utilized this lithium ion system for fleet testing.
The stats are pretty remarkable, with economy expectations topping 100mpg, but this is still subject to confirmation. The estimated electric-only range is 40 miles. Certainly more details will be available later this month at the next SAE World Congress. Raser confirmed that the E-REV vehicle is currently road testing and that the powertrain can also be employed by many light trucks from well-known brands. The SAE show will begin this coming 20th of April.
