Renault increasing production of the Twingo and Clio Campus models
It was announced by Renault earlier today that they will be increasing their production of the Twingo and Clio Campus models. This is due to an increase in sales of both cars with the Twingo coming in as second best selling car in France last month.
This move will create 400 jobs since the production of the Clio Campus will transfer from the carmaker’s Novo Mesto factory in Slovenia to its Flins plant in Paris. The decision to move production from Slovenia to France was met with great concern by the EU competition commissioner since this would break EU rulings. The carmaker and the French President, however, were quick to deny that this move will not translate into job losses for Slovenia. Renault justified the move pointing to the fact that the Slovenian Novo Mesto plant is already running at full capacity. The French President insisted that not a single job will be lost in Novo Mesto, it’s just that the extra capacity at that plant will permit Renault to boost Twingo production, while the plant in Flins will make in the neighborhood of 8000 Clio Campus models beginning June and ending October of this year.
