Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn expects a rough 2012

In anticipation of a difficult year ahead in Europe, Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has started to take measures to protect its brands. In an Automotive News Europe interview, Ghosn said that the market will definitely decline in 2012 in Europe but the “only question” now is the extent of the drop. He said that the company is being “more cautious,” which means that there will be restrictions on capital, employment, salaries, and on just about everything.
Nevertheless, Ghosn said that it will find a solution to the problems related to Europe’s sovereign debt crisis and the volatility of the financial-market. He said that as Europe is filled with experienced and sophisticated people, there may still be a chance that it will be able to avoid a catastrophe.
Ghosn said that Renault has no plans to launch in the U.S. and even Nissan won’t be offering its cars in this country too. Instead, what Renault considers strategically sound is to “develop in China.” On the question of whether his successor will also be leading both Renault and Nissan, Ghosn said that he doesn’t think he could find a person who could do what he’s doing. He said that he has legitimacy from both sides and it’s still difficult for him. He considers it an “impossible” task to find such a replacement. [source: Autonews]
