Renault SA revealed its big plans for the fast-growing Indian market. The investments that were lined up for India that had been put on hold for a while due to the global economic downturn are back on track. In a statement, Katsumi Nakamura, executive vice president and leader of the French automaker's Africa-Asia management committee, said that the Indian consumers should expect to see a re-energized Renault very soon. Nakamura also said that the Renault Nissan Alliance greenfield manufacturing facility in Chennai is well on track and is a key asset in India.
The company had put on hold its investment in the Chennai plant in south India in 2008. In an interview with Reuters, Nakamura said that the company is seeking to gain a certain market share and volume in the next three years. He also said that Renault expects to sell 50,000 to 60,000 cars annually in India within three years. For 2011, Renault plans to introduce the Fluence sedan and Koleos SUV in India. In the next couple of years, Renault aims to offer a full range of cars from entry to luxury segments, according to Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif.
