To boost domestic sales, Renault announced that it will subsidize sales of its cars in France until the end of February for buyers who are scrapping old vehicles. In an interview with BFM radio, the firm's senior vice president for France, Bernard Cambier, said that as of January 1, the French government has cut the scrappage bonus it pays to consumers trading in old cars for new to 700 euros ($1,000) per vehicle from 1,000 euros.

Renault will make up the difference for the next two months. He said that the French car market is expected to remain strong in the first half of this year. The French market's overall sales had increased by 45% but Renault and its Dacia brand had an even higher sales growth of over 90 percent in December. In France, Renault's growth for the entire year is about 14%, compared with 10.5% for the market.
