Renault will unveil a new concept car in honor of the iconic Renault Alpine A110 at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The launching of the Alpine concept coupe is part of Renault’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the A110 Berlinetta this year. Laurens van den Acker, Renault design chief, told Autocar that it would be “remiss not to do something” to celebrate the original Alpine. However, it remains a question when the concept Alpine will see production even if it elicits positive reactions at the Paris show.

“These things live by the grace of the day,” said van den Acker, adding that the best thing for a designer is always to “have something cooking in the corner.” He added that in case “the planets line up” he has something ready.

Meanwhile, Renault’s marketing chief Steve Norman, said the company “knew what to do” about a production Alpine that would rival Porsche, but the question was the size of the market the car could take.  Norman remarked that for the production Alpine to do well financially, it has to sell in China and North America. Van den Acker also brought up the DeZir concept as a topic, saying that it may not yet see production as the company’s badge would not support it yet. The DeZir is expected to compete against the Ferrari and Lamborghini. [source: Autocar]
