Renaultsport Megane confirmed for the Geneva Motor Show

Renault Megane Trophy

Finally, a new superhot version of the Renaultsport Megane which is patterned on the three-door Megane coupe will be revealed on March 3 during the Geneva Motor Show to compete with the extreme variant of the latest Vw Scirocco. This new version will receive special styling and a totally different front end in contrast to the new Megane Trophy racecar unveiled last September at the Paris auto show, although it will adopt the latter's 'aeroblade' styling feature across its air intake vents. It will come with flared wheel arches and broader tracks in comparison to the regular model. The rear end will receive a totally unique bumper design with an exhaust pipe located at the center. The new Renaultsport Megane will be propelled with an identical 2.0-liter turbocharged powerplant which is currently found in the Renault Megane R26 but with a higher power yield of 250 hp (up from the present 230 hp). This model is fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission which enables it to hit the 62mph mark in just 6 seconds and a 'double axis' suspension design at the front that significantly cuts down torque steer thanks to the considerable revisions done by Renault engineers to front sub-frame and steering system. Other modifications would include a re-engineered electric power steering for enhanced driving sensation and a more rigidly placed sub-frame for highly enhanced steering precision. Standard to the new Megane are the brembo brakes, and the limited-slip differential is available as an option. Since the production of the present R26R will be phased out by March, the regular R26 variant of the Megane coupe will be sold permitting modification by owners utilizing component parts from Renaultsport.
