Report: Bmw and Saab have agreed on engine-purchasing deal

2011 Saab 9-3

Bmw AG and Saab announced today that they have agreed on a deal that will allow the Swedish manufacturer to use engines made by Bmw. Apparently, Saab will initially buy engine from Bmw in order to power its nex-generation 9-3 model that will be introduced in late 2012.

Furthermore, Saab is also in talks with Bmw in order to buy diesel engines as well as using the MINI Countryman platform for its upcoming 9-2 model.

An official announcement about this partnership will be made official on Wednesday, when Saab will hold a press conference in Sweden at 11:15 CET.

A BMW spokesman said: "We are in talks with other manufacturers every now and then about a number of topics, on which we currently cannot provide any details. On Wednesday Saab is organizing a conference in Sweden. We can only refer you to that conference."

Regarding the smaller Saab 9-2 model, Saab Chairman Victor Muller said that it will be inspired by the tear-drop shaped Saab 92 model that was in production between 1949 and 1956, while its debut on the market will be made in 2014. The new Saab 9-3 model which will be released in late 2012, will be designed by Jason Castriota, the U.S. designer known for creating the Ferrari P4/5 and Maserati GranTurismo.
