Ford's light-vehicle sales rate in October 2009 will pass 10 million units for the first time this year and during a month that wasn´t supported by the summer cash-for-clunkers program, according to Ken Czubay, Ford's vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service. Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales chief expects that demand will reach the low- to mid-10 million-unit range, which is slightly below October 2008's rate of 10.9 million units.
Czubay had addressed a group of journalists and said that the car industry can continue to expect gradual improvement in the sales rate month to month. He said that the slope will be a little bit flatter than what people predicted six months ago. He said that Ford's prediction is in line with industry expectations. Recently, the consumer auto site Edmunds forecast a 10.35 million-unit sales rate, while the market research firm J.D. Power and Associates estimated that demand will reach 10.3 million units. General Motors Co. predicted a 10.5 million-unit rate.
