Report: Infiniti may soon have ‘Powered by AMG’ badges

2011 Infiniti M Sedan

Sources said that Infiniti's hot models might carry ‘Powered by AMG’ badges in line with Nissan’s recent link-up with the Daimler group. According to certain insiders in Japan who spoke with Autocar, the luxury division of Nissan is considering all options for the Infiniti Performance Line, from being just styling add-ons to full-blown hot models made on the main production line. But the sources say that the company is inclined to go for the latter option since it is in line with its goal to be known for its dynamics and performance.

On this shortlist, there is Mercedes’ upcoming turbocharged 3.5-litre V6. This would be the replacement for Nissan’s 3.7-litre unit in Infiniti’s G range and it could be modified to offer up to 400bhp.

In addition, the sources said that the IPL version of the M, Infiniti’s 5-series rival, might be powered by AMG’s 6.2-litre V8 and cost over $94,000. This would enable the M IPL to undercut the E63 AMG but compete with Jaguar’s XFR when it comes to pricing.
