Report: Next-generation headlights to run on full beam

2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe In the following three to five years new headlights that permanently run on high beam will be available on the market. The company that makes headlight sensors called Gentex is currently working on the new system which will utilize shutters to prevent glare to distract oncoming motorists. Gentex says that they are partnering with headlight makers who are working on complicated lights with shutters controlled by gearwheels to provide an active means by which the light is controlled. To stop dazzling oncoming motorists, the shutters mask the high beam selectively, as the beam stays on, providing the driver full illumination of the road. The firm thinks the idea is an improvement form the recently released system on the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class which also detects oncoming cars and consequently dims the headlights to avoid dazzling oncoming motorists.
