Swedish news agency TT has pointed to Spyker Cars NV as the favorite in the running to purchase Swedish auto brand Saab. General Motors Co. is reportedly leaning towards a buyer that has experience in car production on a small scale, which it believes is referring to Spyker. Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet said that Joran Hagglund, the state secretary at Sweden's Enterprise Ministry, has informed GM it needs to decide this week whether to sell the loss-making business. A Spyker spokesman said that it remains interested and that it isn't aware of any deadline on the process. Meanwhile, GM is believed to be close to deciding which of Saab's bidders will proceed to final negotiations, according to a source who spoke with TT. GM is said to plan to run a full-scale car production line, including design and development, in Sweden. Saab spokesman Eric Geers has declined to comment on the report. [via autonews]
