Ticket sales at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show have significantly increased, hinting at a regional automotive sector recovery. Organizers said that a 19% increase was recorded for the Charity Preview sales. Meanwhile, Industry Preview sales are up 23%. The exact sales figures weren’t released. Bill Perkins, president of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (the organizer of the show and its charity preview), considers these figures to be “encouraging.”
He explained that people are spending more due to their confidence in the industry. For this year's industry preview, Denso International America Inc. bought over 500 $95 tickets. Last year, it only bought 300. The Industry days are Wednesday and Thursday. In 2010, 21,676 Industry Preview tickets were sold.
Denso, the North American subsidiary, posted $6.4 billion in revenue during its 2011 fiscal year, an 11.5% increase from 2010 and an 83.5% increase from 2009. According to Doug Patton, senior vice president of engineering, Denso is gaining new contracts and looks at the Industry Preview as a chance to display its expanding product line in North America. Patton said that many of these tickets are given to customers.
