A small diesel propelled roadster was exhibited by VW at the 2009 North American Auto Show which was called the Concept BlueSport. Auto Motor und Sport has reported that a variant of that car will reach production in time for the 2014 model year. There are quite a few details concerning the production roadster though. What is known is that there will be three variants of the car for the European market. A variant will each come from VW, Seat and Skoda. The Volkswagen variant will most probably be sold in the US as it made its world debut there. The MX-5 rival was exhibited as a concept coming with VW's seamless 2.0-liter turbo-diesel 4-cylinder generating 180 hp and 260lb-ft of torque, enough to help the roadster hace an acceleration rating of 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds. The production engines are still unknown but they are expected to be a mix of diesel and gasoline units with transmissions most possibly Volkswagen's 6 and 7-speed dual clutch DSG and a 6-speed manual. The roadster will come with an estimated 22,000 Euro price tag.
