Ford Motor Co. announced that the first vehicle to get its new instrument panel technology with two liquid crystal displays and an 8-inch touch screen in the center console is the reskinned Lincoln MKX crossover. The liquid crystal screens show the speedometer, fuel gauge and other displays. The 8-inch screen controls the audio, navigation, climate control and phone. Company spokesman Alan Hall said that this would be how Ford interiors will look and that soon, the entire interior of the car will be digital. Be on the lookout for the reskinned MKX to arrive this summer.

But before that, Lincoln will unveil the vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The MyLincoln Touch technology in the MKX will be standard on all future Lincolns. The technology will be known as MyFord Touch on Ford brand vehicles. All the controls are touch-sensitive. On the touch screen, we find that each function -- navigation, phone, climate control and entertainment -- has its own color and corner. The driver gets access to a travel link with weather reports in just one click on an electronic button. The controls also can be activated by voice using Ford's Sync wireless technology. Devices such as an iPod, phone and camera can be connected as well.
