The world‚ largest low-cost electric car factory will be built in Bangalore, says Indian car manufacturer Reva. The ¬£3.7 million plant, which is set to open early next year, will be producing the Reva (rebadged as the G-Wiz in the UK). The plant is slated to have the capacity to roll out 30,000 vehicles each year and will have 350 workers.
Powering the Reva are eight six-volt batteries, which allows for a range of 80 miles. The Reva sells in India for around ¬£4300 and in the UK for about ¬£7500. About 500 cars were sold last year, bringing the total to 3,000 since production began in 2001. Chetan Maini, Reva‚ deputy chairman and chief executive officer, said that the company is proud to promote a technology that holds the ‚Äúkey to the global energy crisis.‚Äù
