RHJ International still has big chance of buying Opel

Opel CEO Leonhard Fischer declared that despite the support that the German government has given to Magna, RHJ International still has an excellent chance of being awarded the opportunity to buy Opel/Vauxhall from General Motors. Fischer said that it would be a mistake to dismiss RHJ so quickly since a basic contract between GM, Opel and RHJ had already been agreed whereas negotiations with Magna are still ongoing. Fischer said, "Predeterminations in preference of a specific investor only make the already complex sales negotiations more formidable." John Smith, GM's chief negotiator, had been quoted as saying RHJ's proposal was easy to implement. [via autocar]
