Rocketsports Racing unveils its new Jaguar XKR GT2

Jaguar XKR GT2
The initial photos of the Jaguar XKR racecar has been revealed by Rocketsports Racing (RSR). The racecar will join the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) GT2 category together with the classic 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Later this year, the ALMS will begin its transition into a new global GT class based on the present GT2 regulations as the GT1 category goes into the racing books, and RSR will be present to take advantage with a all-new team and image. The team will only participate for part of the 2009 season but will be prepared for a full-season championship next year.
Rocketsport Racing will be joining the ALMS with Jaguar providing technical and marketing partnership, with the latter providing essential engineering, information and support to help the team in the process of homologation and construction.
The Jaguar XKR's construction is almost finished at the RSR facility, and comes with a parallel engine development process for the new AJ-133 direct injection 5.0 liter naturally ventilated power unit. The firm‚ intention is to start testing and development by June and join the ALMS series briefly thereafter. There will be at least three XKRs that will be built by RSR this year and by next year will have them available for customers.
The racecar is built on the same aluminum chassis found in the production XKR, merging stampings, forgings, and extrusions, all connected by unique rivets and high-capacity bonding agents. For the moment, the powerplant requires to be tuned to meet with the required air restrictors and the last 24 hours at the Le Mans. By the way, RSR is the same firm that thrust a faintly revised Jaguar XF-R to a maximum speed of 225mph (363km/h) in a clandestine high-speed test last year at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
