Rolls-Royce considering electric Phantom

Although one does not readily mentally associate old-fashioned beauty, determined styling and royal blooded buyers with cars that are electrically powered, but Tom Purves, Chief Executive Officers for Rolls-Royce, thinks the combination makes a lot of sense. Silent operation, instant torque and urban appropriateness all work in favor of the electric-powered Rolls-Royce. Having had a taste of the remarkable driving experience of the Mini E, Purves was quite astonished, raving about the car's power and silence. He now believes that such a power plant would fit quite perfectly in his own brand, according to a report by CAR. Recalling an old Rolls Royce ad campaign, Purves said, We stand for unmatched refinement and you can´t get a quieter and less intrusive engine than a well engineered electric motor.
Truly, the loudest noise you would hear would be the tick of the clock. We also stand for strong and instant torque and an electric motor delivers maximum torque instantly. The 'waftability' would be fantastic. Purves sees in his vision of the future where the conventional combustion-powered vehicles are totally prohibited from city centers a realistic idea, considering London's present congestion charge and the passionate opposition to bigger cars in Europe and the UK. Rolls-Royce would need an electric car in that future to compete in the largest international markets, making a strong case, if not in the present, then in that foreseen future. Purves believes that the technology to produce an all-electric Rolls-Royce is available now, and would take only a few more years of engineering to come up with the appropriate solution.
