Rolls-Royce developing three variants of the new Ghost sedan

2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost
Rolls-Royce said that three variants of the new Ghost sedan are currently in the works. These include a stretched version, a drophead coupe and a coupe – which are expected to debut within the next three years. With these variants, Rolls-Royce lineup will comprise eight models. It has been confirmed previously by Rolls-Royce that the Ghost lends itself to new models. The stretched version of the Ghost is slated to be the first to arrive. The extra length is added behind the B-pillar, needing a new roof and elongated rear doors. It’s expected that the wheelbase will grow by 5 or 6 inches, while the 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 powertrain is unchanged.
The two two-door models will follow; however, Rolls-Royce has yet to announce the order of their introduction. As their development is relatively predictable, there will be no concepts to preview the new models (the 2006 100EX previewed the Phantom Drophead Coupe). The four-door Ghost is recognized as the marque's sales mainstay. Sales data show that one Phantom is sold for every three of these sedans
The appeal stems from its lower price and wider appeal. Its sales have more than doubled to about 2,500 units in 2010. Rolls-Royce is also considering the possibility of creating more environmentally friendly models. Rolls Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos said that the company will “evaluate alternative propulsion next year [2011]." He said that as soon as Rolls-Royce finds out what customers expect, it will develop a strategy.
