Rolls Royce is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Spirit of Ecstasy, the famous flying lady mascot that is seen on each of its models. To honor this moment, the Ghost and Phantom models that are built by Rolls Royce in Goodwood will get a special Spirit of Ecstasy that will be engraved with the inscription "Spirit of Ecstasy Centenary – 2011". This inscription can be seen at the base of the mascot and it will be written in a special font named ITC Willow. Rolls Royce is planning to hold some special events throughout the year as part of the celebration.
To commemorate the date when the Spirit of Ecstasy design created by Charles Skyes was first registered, there will be a special drive in central London on February 6 with 100 Rolls Royces to be driven on the city's roads. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said that the Spirit of Ecstasy is “perhaps the most famous automotive icon,” which adorns the past and present models of Rolls-Royce.
He said that this mascot has inspired the founding fathers of the company, the car owners, and enthusiasts throughout the generations. He added that this image continues to inspire those who have worked for Rolls-Royce, which makes the “world’s most exclusive and desirable cars.”
