Rolls-Royce taps former Jaguar exec Giles Taylor

Rolls-Royce has brought in Giles Taylor, a veteran executive designer, to head the exterior design department of the luxury carmaker. Rolls-Royce said that Taylor, who will occupy an empty position in the team, will join the company in April 2011. The 43-year-old Taylor, after studying design in the United Kingdom, worked in several U.K. and international design roles, most recently as head of design for the XJ and XK model series at Jaguar.
According to the company, the Rolls-Royce design team has received several design accolades, including a “Red Dot” award in 2010 for the design of the Ghost, the company's latest model. Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group design, said that Taylor brings with him “exceptional” design skills and a comprehensive understanding of British values and heritage that are “crucial” to Rolls-Royce. Ian Cameron, Rolls-Royce’s chief designer said that Taylor has a deep knowledge of emotive brands in the luxury segment and a proven track record.
“Giles has a deep knowledge of emotive brands in the luxury segment and a proven track record. He will be a very valuable addition to the Rolls-Royce design team”, said Ian Cameron, Chief Designer, Rolls‑Royce Motor Cars.
