Bmw unveiled the impressive Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe, a concept car that hints at a possible 8-Series. Unveiled in Italy at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance, the new Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe is a four-seater powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine delivering 537 bhp, same found on the 760i. Power is delivered to the rear wheels. Regarding the design, the Gran Lusso Coupe is quite impressive and comes with a swept-back silhouette that features a long bonnet, shallow glasshouse and a reinterpretation of the well-known Bmw front grille. Although it is described as a one-off, the Gran Lusso Coupe could easily be taken into production with little changes.

The same design theme is continued at the interior where Bmw and Pininfarina used only high-quality materials such as black and tobacco brown leather upholstery from Italian company Foglizzo, but also the trims sourced from kauri wood as well as black chrome.

“The roof liner of finest Italian virgin wool features the striking “Principe di Galles” pattern. This grey plaid strikes a bold contrast to the traditional materials used for the doors and dashboard. The brown leather seats also pick up on the pattern in their all-round piping. Allowing extra light into the interior is an oblong aperture in the roof liner which is additionally illuminated by white LEDs. In the footwell areas, a soft deep-pile carpet in dark grey adds to a subtle sense of wellbeing. Another interior detail are the freestanding B-pillars, whose elegant design when viewed from the outside creates a homogeneous glazed area and frameless doors that appear very light.” said the press release.

Nissan Motor Co. will start offering its first Datsun model in India by March 2014 as part of its bid to increase its market share in the country to 10 percent by 2016. Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn resurrected the brand to broaden Nissan's appeal to consumers in India, Russia and Indonesia. Nissan plans to use Datsun to chip away the market shares of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in India. Nissan will initially sell Datsun-brand vehicles at existing Indian dealerships, according to Kenichiro Yomura, head of the carmaker’s Indian unit. He remarked that Nissan is expanding its sales network in India from the current 95 outlets to 145 in 2016. Yomura noted that while Hyundai and Suzuki are strong in India, no carmaker can "dominate the market indefinitely."

Ammar Master, an analyst at LMC Automotive, quipped that Datsun is not a cheaper version of Nissan, but is a real car built specifically for customers in India. He remarked that it will take some time for Datsun to build up its brand name. According to Yomura, Nissan is planning to almost triple sales in India to 100,000 vehicles in the current fiscal year ending March 2014, outpacing the industry-wide growth of up to 7 percent expected by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Nissan could achieve its target market share by increasing sales in smaller models. According to the association, compacts and minicars accounted for around 75 percent of passenger-car sales in India in the year ended March 31, 2013. The association disclosed that Maruti and Hyundai hold a 45-percent and 20-percent share of the Indian car market respectively.

VL Automotive and the Wanxiang Group have submitted an offer to acquire financially troubled carmaker Fisker Automotive, people privy with the matter told Reuters. VL Automotive, a company led by former General Motors executive Bob Lutz, and Chinese auto supplier Wanxiang submitted an offer to acquire Fisker through a prepackaged bankruptcy agreement, the sources revealed. The acquisition offer is one of at least two ongoing bids to resurrect the cash-strapped Fisker. The other bid is being worked on by investors based in Europe and Hong Kong, including billionaire Richard Li. According to the sources, their offer entails buying $171 million in debt that Fisker still owes to the U.S. Department of Energy. Fisker has not built a vehicle since July 2012. The sources told Reuters that discussions were still ongoing and have yet to reach a final agreement.

He remarked that the Fisker Karma’s technology was similar to that of the Chevrolet Volt -- ground-breaking. He added that the technology will be soon adopted by many leading carmakers as they seek to comply with stringent carbon dioxide and fuel economy rules. Jaguar has released a new short film that highlights the carmaker’s high-profile participation in the Mille Miglia 2013, which is considered as the ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Race.’ The carmaker has invited high-profile individuals to drive some of its Jaguar Heritage Racing cars as they participate in the 1,000-mile drive event across Italy. Riding three examples of the Jaguar XK120 were the driver pairings of Sir Chris Hoy and Andy Wallace; Daniel Day Lewis and Jim Gianopulos and David Gandy and Yasmin Le Bon. The pairs were joined by another three high-profile pairs riding three C-Type sports cars -- Jaguar Regional Director for Europe Bernard Kuhnt and actress Hannah Herzsprung; Alex Buncombe and Chris Harris; and Salvatore Ferragamo Jr. and Michael Quinn, who is a grandson of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons. The Jaguar cavalcade represents only a tiny fraction of the total number of classic race and road cars participating in the annual Mille Miglia event. In fact, this year’s race has attracted over 400 classic cars. This record number of entries means the Jaguar drivers were racing against some of the most significant sports cars ever built.

After all, one of them got lucky enough to win the very special one-off Dark Knight Rises Juke Nismo. Following a drive across the town, the Batman-inspired Juke Nismo and the famous Tumbler were parked in front of Carmarthen Castle, where keys to the “Batmobile” were handed to local baker and competition winner Adam Williams. A fan of action films, Williams became the new owner of the Dark Knight Rises Juke Nismo after taking Nissan’s Thrill Test on http://www.builttothrill.co.uk Willi.ams remarked that winning the Dark Knight Rises Juke Nismo was the biggest surprise of his life, adding that it is great to think that he is the “only person in the world” with his own version of the Batmobile. He noted that he will certainly “turn a few heads driving around Carmarthen.”
