Rumor: Abarth Fiat 500 Speedster in the works

Abarth is working on a coupe version of the Fiat 500 that it says will be more exclusive and will be an even more extreme incarnation of the city car. This is a caricature-like impression made by its official artist. The car, which takes its inspiration from the Zagato Abarth 750 T of 1959, appears to have a shallower glass area, cut-down windscreen and faster rake of the roofline and D-pillars. The car will be available in open and closed forms.
The hard-top version will feature the Zagato-signature double-bubble roof of the original. To feed the 750 T rear-mounted engine, it had huge scoops. We see hints of these from a new, enlarged tail spoiler. These models will be distinguishable due to their bigger wheels and numerous detail changes. These cars will be the first modern Abarths with body styles that are limited only to the marque. Upgrades will be made on the interior too. The rear seats in some versions will be removed, commonly done on Italian coupe of the 1950s and 1960s.
It's likely that the Abarth coupe will be offered with the 178bhp 1.4 litre T-Jet engine from the limited-edition Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari. Another option is Fiat's new 1.4 MultiAir engine, which recently appeared in the Abarth Punto Evo. In standard form, the engine has an output of 163bhp and 184lb ft of torque but with Esseesse tuning, it can deliver 178bhp and 199lb ft of torque. [via autocar]
