Rumor: Bentley working on an entry-level four-door coupe

2011 Bentley Continental GT

Bentley has started to develop its own four-door coupe, according to autoexpress. In recent years, the four-door coupe segment has constantly been expanding. The vehicle that Bentley is currently developing will be the entry-level model of its future range. It will directly compete against the Aston Martin Rapide, the next generation of the Maserati Quattroporte, or the four-door model that Lamborghini is considering.

This vehicle will be a four-seater and will come with a low profile in order to appeal to a different audience from the Flying Spur Saloon. Elements from the newly presented Continental GT facelift will be evident in this vehicle’s front fascia.

Similar to other Bentley models, its interior will come with several refined features. Its platform will be a modified version of what the next generation Audi A6 uses. This baby Bentley will be powered by a 4.0 liter V8 engine, which is being co-developed by Bentley and Audi. This unit will be coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and its power will be distributed to the road using an all-wheel-drive system. This engine will also be featured on the revamped Continental GT. [via autoexpress]
