Rumor: Chevrolet Cruze hatchback coming to Paris Motor Show

2011 Chevrolet Cruze

Chevrolet will debut a hatchback version of the upcoming Cruze compact sedan at the Paris Motor Show. GM had denied that it had plans for a Cruze SS and Cruze coupe, but apparently, the green light for the hatchback had been given. Incidentally, GM's Holden unit in Australia, which is known for its large cars, has penned the Cruze hatchback. Holden is also responsible for the styling of the Aveo RS that was displayed at Detroit earlier this year, indicating how far the brand had expanded as a small car designer. What has been divulged so far is that the four-door Cruze hatchback will be produced in 2011.

It has yet to be revealed in what countries the car will be sold but we know that for Australia's domestic market, the vehicle will have a Holden badge. It's also possible that the production and sales of the Cruze hatchback will include Asia and Europe. It's expected that the mechanicals of the Cruze hatchback will be the same as those of the Cruze sedan.

In the US, the car is expected to feature the same 1.4-liter, turbo I-4 and 1.8-liter, normally aspirated I-4 as the sedan. The car will be offered with a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Chevrolet said that the Cruze hatchback will be one of four world premieres at the Paris Motor Show. Other world premieres include the upcoming Chevrolet Orlando, a seven-seater people mover based on the same Delta II architecture as the Cruze hatchback; and Chevrolet's new Aveo.[via goauto]
