Rumor: Citroen DS9 gets green light for production

Citroen Metropolis Concept

Two recent Citroen concepts have been given the go-signal to enter production: the Metropolis upmarket saloon and the Survolt sports car. Citroen'scurrent C6 has not been successful at breaking into the European executive saloon market. In an interview with Autocar, PSA design boss Jean-Pierre Ploue said that Citroen would have to persevere. He also said that Citroen is hopeful about the success of the Metropolis, which is expected to arrive at European showrooms as a range-topping DS9 model.

He also said that Citroen shouldn't allow Audi, Mercedes and BMW to make a mark in the supermini territory that Citroen lords over without fighting back and pushing into theirs. He added that Citroen can offer much more to the large luxury car segment in Europe. He anticipates that this large DS flagship model that's just bursting of character will be able to accomplish great things for the company.

He dubbed this vehicle as a DS9 in reference to the original DS19. Ploue believes that creating this car and giving it a Citroen badge would be a sensible financial bet. Meanwhile, the Survolt project has made a running prototype that made a splash at the Le Mans Classic race meeting. It has specifications that are identical to the concept car, resulting to an output of 248bhp and 738lb ft of torque. The source confirmed that Citroen's still has plans to put the Survolt into low-volume production. The source also said that Citroen aims to bring to life its idea of a one-make race series.
