Rumor: Ferrari 599 GTO in the works

The Ferrari GTO, which is being tagged as Ferrari's fastest ever road car, will soon be seen on roads. A version of the 599 GTB Fiorano supercar is set to wear the Prancing Horse's most famous initials. This marks the first time that the GTO badge has been used since 25 years ago. In a recent interview with evo, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said that the company had revised the internal classification of its flagship 599 from being a "GT" car to part of the "Sports Car" division, alongside the newly launched 458 Italia. This change led to the development of a more extreme version of the 599, similar to how the Scuderia was developed from the standard F430.
In effect, the 599 GTO will be a road-going version of the track-only £1 million Ferrari 599XX. In terms of dynamics, it is slotted well above the current 599 HGTE. Power has been raised to 700bhp, an 89bhp difference over the standard car, that came about as a result of raising the rev-limit of the 599's Enzo-derived 6-litre V12 to 9000rpm.
With quicker gearchanges (down from 100 milliseconds to around 60), we can expect the 0-60mph acceleration time to drop from 3.7sec to around 3.2. Top speed (205mph in the 599 HGTE) is expected to rise to an Enzo-rivaling 217mph. What this means is that the 599 GTO could very well be Ferrari's fastest ever road car. The UK is scheduled to receive 50 cars, each of which is priced at £300K. First deliveries are expected in May.
