Rumor: Hardcore Ferrari 599 GTO in the works
Speculations that Ferrari is working on a hardcore version of the 599 GTB Fiorano have been around for some time but we’ve received new information that confirms that this is true. No name has been officially chosen yet but some are calling the car the 599 GTO in honor of the legendary 250 GTO of the 1960s. In the paperwork discovered for pre-orders, the vehicle was referred to as “Ferrari 599 GTO Limited Edition.” Continued after the jump!
The car is equipped with a V12 engine making between 500kW (680hp) and 515kW (700hp). With the use of components such as carbonfiber, body mass is decreased by around 45kg to 68kg (100 to 150lbs). The appearance is clearly inspired by the 599 XX Concept of Geneva 2009.
It’s expected that within the next two months, dealers and buyers would be descending on Maranello to view the car.
Public unveiling is believed to be accomplished at the Geneva Motor Show. Delivery for the GTOs will begin around October 2010. Pricing is expected to be steep for this limited edition model, which is reported to only have 500 units produced. It’s estimated that the car will cost about 20%-25% more than a stock 599, or at least US$380,000.
