Rumor: Hyundai preparing a Veloster Turbo R-Spec

There are rumors that a high performance variant of Hyundai’s Veloster Turbo is being developed. It was only this year that the Hyundai Veloster Turbo was introduced. It is available with a 1.6-liter, turbo-four with 201-hp and 195 lb-ft of torque and costs just $21,500. It’s a bit too early for the name of this model to be announced. One possibility is that it would be known as the R-Spec. Insiders who have seen the sports car up close said that the Veloster Turbo has a more powerful engine but it uses the same suspension as the base model Veloster. It seems like this was an intentional move by Hyundai to provide room for a model that offers better performance. It’s possible that it would be subjected to suspension upgrades, as well as be given an even more powerful powerplant. The 2.0-liter, turbo-four with 274-hp from the Genesis Coupe may be a little too expensive for the Veloster’s price range. However, it’s likely to get enhanced suspension components, a lowered stance, and minor tweaking to the engine to make its way to a higher-tiered model. Considering that the powerplant is turbocharged, it won’t be long before the automaker can raise its performance numbers without compromising the efficiency of reliability. The Veloster Turbo features an upgraded intake better-flowing exhaust. [source: AutoGuide]
